Greetings fellow CPCU’s:

I could not be more excited to be your Chapter President for 2019.  As many of you know, 2019 marks the 75th anniversary of the CPCU Society.  For over seventy-five years, the CPCU designation has been, and remains, the premier insurance industry designation and that wouldn’t be possible without strong, vibrant Chapters like Boston.   Throughout the year, I hope you will capitalize on all the benefits that Chapter membership provides – including access to educational, networking and charity events with other leading-edge professionals.

Boston is one of the oldest Chapters in the United States, dating back to 1951, and our members have never been more committed to our cause and to making a real difference.  Due to our strong history, we are able to provide scholarship assistance to outstanding young people, provide guidance to newer chapters, and continually bring you high quality industry speakers on relevant topics.  As large as we are (550 members), we are considered a “jumbo” Chapter, but these events could not be possible without the contributions of individuals, like you, making a difference every day.

I am deeply involved in the Boston CPCU Chapter, and I treasure the opportunities and experiences it has given me.  Leading our New Designee Committee allowed me to encourage students and congratulate new designees along their journeys.  Serving as Program Chair, I worked with speakers and presenters to bring top quality and timely information throughout the year.  In working extensively with our Sponsorship Team, we ensure solid funding continues.  The opportunities to volunteer with the Chapter have let me give back to our community.  Our I-Day Planning Committee requires some of the most detailed (and stressful) planning and project management of all.  Through work on the Nominating Committee, I’ve helped shape the future leadership and success of the Chapter.  There have even been opportunities for me to work on my public speaking skills along the way.  These types of opportunities provided me with key skills and experience that would be difficult to earn elsewhere.

Being the Chapter President may last for only one year, but the commitment to its success is a long-term endeavor.  After being nominated to the Board of Directors, you may have the opportunity to chair a committee, or be nominated as the next Secretary, which in turn starts you on the five year path of your presidency.  It is my aim to reaffirm what being a CPCU means, to inspire you, and to rekindle your personal commitment to the Boston Chapter.  If that means joining us for one event, or helping us plan one, what’s stopping you?  Come, and take part in all the Chapter has to offer!

Best regards for your best 2019,

Jeffery Alan Couden, CPCU, AIC-M, ARe, AIS
